The Staff Nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for in-scope tasks that assure competent, compassionate nursing care for patients and families. They will collaborate with the Nurse Manager and members of the Patient Care Team to achieve optimal patient outcomes and smooth functioning of the medical practice.

- Participates in nursing care as part of the health care team of providers, other nurses, MAs, social workers and lab personnel.
- Provides care that is clinically excellent and both age and culturally competent.
- Documents pertinent patient information in the EMR in accordance with standards of documentation for ambulatory care nursing.
- Performs nursing procedures within the scope of practice of a registered nurse, including but not limited to vaccinations, injections, EKGs, medication reconciliation and documentation.
- Provides patient triage, via phone, on line or in person in collaboration with the health care team.
- Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.
- Assures efficient patient flow through the office, and patient safety while in the facility
- Reviews and participates in adherence to health maintenance activities.
- Assists patients as needed through the complete process of care including rooming, vital signs, patient education, check-out, room re-preparation, etc.
- Assists nurse manager with implementing new policies and procedures.
- Responds to needs to expedite visits and keep on schedule
- Assists provider with patient examination, procedures, and treatments.
- Administers medications within the scope of practice..
- Participates in competency training to conduct waived testing processes (eg urine pregnancy tests).
- Actively participates in staff meetings and team huddles.
- Performs designated tasks to handle/track/report test results.
- Manages patient messages, phone calls, medication refills, forms and other tasks with providers.
- Faxes, mails or telephones in prescription renewals as directed by provider if needed.
- Assists provider in coordinating care with/making referrals to community agencies.
- Participates in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.
- Teaches and directs other clinical support staff for whom she/he is responsible.
- Appropriately utilizes equipment, resources and supplies.
- Provides input to supervisor regarding practice needs.
- Participates in practice programs (eg vaccine clinics), and committees as requested.
- Maintains and updates clinical licensure, knowledge and skills..
- Participates in emergency nursing coverage as needed.
- Participates in relevant continuing education programs, and regulatory requirements for annual training
