Patients with limited English proficiency and deaf and hard of hearing patients have the right to a medical interpreter at no cost to them. Interpreter Services at NEWH is dedicated to helping providers establish a direct relationship with their non-English or limited-English proficient patients.
It is the policy of NEWH to provide interpreting and translation services for patients who prefer to communicate in a language other than English. NEWH is committed to providing the highest quality of care, our bilingual staff and interpreter services via Massachusetts General Hospital, MGH provide accurate and complete interpretation services.
All interpreters support the NEWH community in the delivery of culturally competent care and facilitate access to health center services for non-English- or limited-English-proficient patients.
We have certified medical interpreters on staff in the following languages:
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Spanish
If the patient’s preferred language is other than the languages spoken by NEWH medical interpreter staff, patients may call MGH Interpreter Services at (617) 726-6966/TTY (617) 724-0354.
Patients and family members can call the Administrative Director at (617) 643-8230 to request a certified medical interpreter staff member for translation services.
